چکیده
Treating municipal wastewater is a complex and costly process. With rising energy costs sustainability targets, treatment plants (WWTPs) are looking for alternatives to reduce operating carbon dependence. Anaerobic digestion the most common established technology used in WWTPs treat sludge since it can potentially improve recovery sewage costs, mainly due generation of biogas. Biogas renewable resource be several applications, including heating producing electricity. By exploring biogas potential, their demands. The objective this paper conduct scoping literature review order provide key concepts underpinning production utilisation WWTPs. In addition, study aims an overview current state-of-the-art that may serve as quick reference research community, WWTP operators, engineers, definitions general state technologies around world. Methods increase production, co-digestion, pre-treatment, biological hydrogen methanation, reviewed, using also summarised. This has identified co-digestion was efficient technique methane yield, while pre-treatment improved biodegradability reduced but enhanced production. Although many studies have explored different methods WWTPs, there still need further investigation, especially regarding techno-economic feasibility these full-scale facilities. challenges related extra investment increased integrate new techniques into system. There great interest efficiency self-sufficiency work provides important increasing number recently published papers focus on improving from

Considering an Up-Flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket for the Treatment of Spearmint Essential Oil Wastewater and Biogas Production
The aromatic and dark-colored spearmint essential oil wastewater (SEOW) generally contains a large amount of organic matter, including chemical oxygen demand (COD), phenolic compounds, and inorganic contents. In this study, the pollutant removal performance and biogas production rate of an up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor used for the treatment of SEOW were investigated. During t...

Thousands of tons of urban solid waste and human and animal waste in cities and villages of Iran have endangered the health of the environment and increased the greenhouse gases. On the other hand, the increasing trend of energy consumption has caused energy crisis phenomena in the world. Moreover, the increasing consumption of energy from fossil fuels has caused emissions from these fuels. Hen...
متن کاملCharacteristics and disposal options of sludge from a steel mill wastewater treatment plant
In the present study, sludge from a steel wastewater treatment plant (SWWTP) was analyzed regarding its physicochemical characteristics and metal contents, and disposal options. For these purposes, grab sampling was used to collect 18 slurry and 18 cake sludge samples in 6 mouth (May-October 2012). Mann-Whitney U test, one sample T-test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were applied to analyze the ...
متن کاملEnhancing the Energy Efficiency of Wastewater Treatment Plants through Co-digestion and Fuel Cell Systems
The present work provides an overview of technological measures to increase the self-sufficiency of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), in particular for the largely diffused activated sludge-based WWTP. The operation of WWTPs entails a huge amount of electricity. Thermal energy is also required for pre-heating the sludge and sometimes exsiccation of the digested sludge. On the other hand, the...
